everyone knew it was coming...! we have been looking at kittens since last fall. we keep saying moongi needs someone to play with because he's the only young boy in the elderly household. he used to absolutely torment hal by chasing him around and bopping him on the head. to hal it was just a bop but moongi was like. out for the kill. bro wanted murder and nothing less. so, we have been considering a kitten or just a younger cat to keep him company and be insane and play with him.

so last thursday i was looking on the website of best friends, an animal sanctuary in kanab, utah that my family had previously adopted from. i really like the sanctuary and i think they take really good quality care of their animals and are really devoted to finding them loving homes. i found two fucked up kittens (my own words) that were both missing an eye on opposite sides of their heads. i feel really bad for fucked up looking animals because it makes them not as adoptable as another animal. plus the fact that these two kittens were a bonded pair and needed to go together also lowered their chances of adoption. people usually go out looking for just one cat, not two, and don't want the added stress or financial burden of a whole additional animal. which i absolutely understand!! taking two can be a lot. but as soon as i saw them i was like oh, i love them. bot saw them and immediately fell in love too.

we went through the adoption approval process and got accepted to come see them. we made the trip out to utah but we had some delays and confusion because of that stupid ass spring forward time change!! but either way, we got to drive through beautiful utah, and see zion national park in march! bot had never seen it before!

we arrived in kanab and got some delicious dinner. we got to walk to dinner and it was really nice outside! also the ground in kanab is just red. i remember it being very orange from when i visited best friends sanctuary when i was a kid, but it was like. RED red. we hd stray kids photocards with us because this bang chan comes everywhere with us. xD

when we met the kittens, they were playing together! it didn't take long for us to decide we wanted them to be part of our family. the best friends people had us e-sign papers and went over their medical history with us. they were found outdoors by someone who does trap/neuter/release and they had issues with their eyes. they aren't sure if the infections were caused by trauma, or if the infection became the trauma. their eyes were horribly swollen and ruptured and had to be removed shortly after they came to the sactuary. seeing out of just one eye is pretty scary, so they were both skittish at first.

we decided on names for them: the black and white one is named senkou after the song and album by ACME ! i'm choosing to use 先行 to write his name. this is a verb that means to go ahead/go first. the word "senkou" is written in english for ACME's album so i have to decide which use of the word best fits him as a cat. this verb is the most accurate to me because he was the first to approach us and is very headstrong and happy to take the lead. he is a very friendly cat already!

the gold/brown kitten is named miroh from the song by Stray Kids. i love this name for him because it's a korean word play meaning "maze", but the lyrics to the song are about fighting your way through and being ok with your progress on your journey through life's maze. miroh is much more shy and skittish than his brother. he was scared of human touch at first but is coming to live being pet and even slept with us on our feet. his battle/maze is coming to trust us as his humans and he is working on it every day!!

so there are the kittens. they are only 4 months old so their adventure is just beginning. i hope to have them for a very very long time. little bot is 15 years old and i would be so happy to enjoy 15 long years with new creatures. i only had hal for 6 years and the time feels all too short. i wish i had him for all 12 years of his life and got to enjoy his puppyhood with him, but i'm thankful for the time i did get with him. it's crazily coincidence that hal passed away on february 11, and because of the delays that ended up happening, we ended up adoping senkou and miroh on march 11, exactly one month after his passing. i like to think that he was with us in some way, showing that life goes on and that it was the right time to welcome more members of the family.

plus, if we had managed to find a kitten to adopt before he passed, the cat would have just annoyed the hell out of him!! so, i hope hal's angel spirit can watch over senkou and miroh and help them grow big and strong. as for moongi, little bot, kodachi, and tsurugi... they'll just have to tolerate the new babies from here on out!!!
