tragically, my favorite anime convention ever, sin city anime, is now over. :( however, now i get to talk about what an amazing and fun time the first weekend of november was!

sin city anime is the most local of the local las vegas anime cons. i feel like every other convention in town is focused on everything but building a truly LOCAL anime community within the city. i love industry guests, a big dealers hall, and fun panels as much as the next person, but genuinely, the fun of anime conventions for me is making connections. i love anime hobby environments in which you feel comfortable, safe, and in like-minded company- like the people are just genuinely there to have a good time and nobody is weird or pretentious or creepy. i've been going to conventions since i was about 14 years old, and i've met my fair share of creeps and weirdos at various cons. it's really no fun. and once an anime convention gets too big (like anime expo, anime los angeles, and most recently, lvlup expo) it just seems like an impersonal maze of wandering halls and waiting in lines of people who don't want to talk to anyone else.

this is the reason i LOVE sin city anime. it feels like the conventions i loved as a kid- a comfortable gathering of friends. everyone is looking out for one another and i've met SO MANY FRIENDS here. and not people i've known for years- i've MET friends. new people who are kind and talented, who have different interests i ended up getting into (BEYBLADE!!!!), and just incredibly chill and friendly people. you can walk up to anyone and start talking to them and become friends. like everyone just wants to chat, INCLUDING the awesome guests they invite. the industry, voice acting, and cosplay guests have all been the sweetest people ever! and same with the amazing headline talents! ACME last year was so great because they are literally just amazingly talented guys in this amazing band and they are still so friendly and chill to everyone. this year with fake star, jiluka and miura ayme knocked it out of the park.

last year i went with bot and we ended up volunteering for a while, during which i met no less than 50 people who are now my instagram moots. this year since i was doing photography, that number is closer to 100. which is boggling to me- in a time where having followers in the tens of thousands is normal, we have to consider how many people ONE HUNDRED really is. i got the time to make connections with and photograph literally about a hundred people who were all super nice to me and whose picture i got to capture for the con! THAT IS SO AWESOME WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT!!

before i go on, huge shoutout to the sin city anime staff who made everything happen. i love hanging out with my cousins, and it was so fun to be able to hover around rob's 'central command' booth in the main events hall and see the inner workings of the con. the amount of effort put into the cosplay contest, fashion show, and musical acts was actually amazing and it all worked out and turned out SO COOL. thank you so much to the staff if you ever read this- you have made SCA my favorite anime convention of all time with your hard work and effort!!

other events happened before the con- mainly us adopting kira, our blind kitten. on friday we actually had to leave the con for a few hours to get her stitches taken out, but i'll post more about that after my sin city anime post is over!

basically my job was to run around and take pictures of all the main events and goings-on at the con. i was so happy to take pictures with benjamin (bee sting photography) and joey (fakestar photography) ! i also got to meet and get to know more awesome photographers throughout the weekend! the first thing i'll mention that i was so happy to photograph was THE FASHION SHOW!

i got to take pictures of hisacy-san and HYPERCORE! this was so great because my fiancee bot was chosen as one of the models for the hypercore segment of the fashion show!!! they got styled by hisacy-san and looked literally AMAZINGGGG and i was so proud to watch them walk on the stage, i was trying to cheer but i also had to hold my camera steady and get the shot LMAO! here is bot and hisacy san! i would post pics of all the models but if i posted everything my post would be SOOO LONG, so i actually made two instagram posts here and here with all the model pics! (i know wtf- I POSTED TO INSTAGRAM?? it really only happens twice a year lol)

this was also a dope experience because sena of jiluka was one of the models for hypercore! i love jiluka's music and it was really cool working with him, he's really good at posing lol! he even posted the pictures i took on twitter and instagram and it made me really happy to see my photographs used there!!

the fashion show also included some amazing people i got to know or have gotten to know through the con and jfashion scene over the years: rina cali, AC unit, and ghost girl goods! i don't have the space to post all the pictures here but here are the group photos!

i got to take pics of lip synch for your cosplay (A BLAST), the cosplay competition (I WAS AMAZED), buggy cosplay's burlesque show (AWOOGA??), igiko pop (ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND I STAN NOW), miura ayme (ASMO!!! LOVE HIM SO MUCH) and lots of other awesome things! i also got to see my dear friends, i meant to wear my wrist cuffs from my dear friend little may bells store, but i didn't wear lolita that weekend because i knew it would prohibit my ability to take pictures properly, so sad!!! we also got to visit our friends who frequest conventions! I LOVED DOING THIS SO MUCH!! i loved taking your pictures and making memories singing, lipsynching, cheering, and laughing with all of you guys! i love sin city anime so much and i can't wait for next november at the orleans!! HERE ARE MORE PICTURES OF MY PALS, NEW AND OLD, SPECIAL GUESTS, COSPLAYERS, AND JUST ALL AROUND AMAZING PEOPLE!!

SEE YOU ALL NEXT WATER TIME!!!
